Welcome to the Murray Center for Women in Technology!
The Center is named in honor of Dr. Constance A. Murray, a dedicated educator and humanitarian, who served as the university's Dean of Students from 1978 until she passed away in 1994. Dean Murray devoted her life to enhancing opportunities for women and minorities - the Murray Center is dedicated to continuing her work.
The Mission of the Murray Center is to ensure the sustainable advancement of NJIT women students, faculty and staff by facilitating individual growth, community interaction, and institutional transformation.
The Murray Center serves as a campus resource for research-based best practices on recruitment and retention of women students and faculty and sponsors a variety of programs designed to meet the needs of all women at NJIT. The Murray Center helps women students achieve academic and professional success by providing support structures and facilitating meaningful connections within the NJIT campus community and corporate communities.
The Murray Center is open Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM. All members of the NJIT community are welcome to visit the Murray Center and make use of its resources. The Murray Center features a lounge, computer lab, conference rooms and a resource library. A microwave and refrigerator are also available for students to use.
In addition to its own events, including Women's History Month and the Annual Gilbreth Colloquium, the Murray Center co-sponsors events with other departments, programs and interest groups. The Murray Center is happy to publicize through its formal and informal networks any internal or external events that NJIT women should know about.
The Murray Center also acts as a central home for a variety of professional and support groups that work to increase the visibility of women at NJIT and strive to recognize the accomplishments of women on-campus and in the workplace. These groups include:
- The Committee on Women's Issues
- The American Council on Education (ACE) Network - NJIT Chapter
- The Society of Women Engineers - NJIT Student Section (SWE)
The Center also works closely with various NJIT student organizations and clubs, such as the:
- Graduate Student Association (GSA)
- Hispanic Organization of Students in Technology (HOST)
- Inter-Fraternity/Sorority Council (IFSC)
- National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
